Back to 2005

Mark One (aka) MRK1’s older material have been the topic of more than a few iChat convos recently at CCHQ. Known primarily for his production work behind the Grime act Virus Syndicate, Mark was an undeniable influential player in the early days of post 2step Dark Garage.

In 2005, Mark One’s Lost Gold single handedly turned me on to this wild shit called Dubstep. Since that time, the music has gone through a number of mutations and (unfortunately) it seams that many people have lost touch with it’s UK Garage roots as the midrange basslines slowly take over.

The past few months show promise though. Skream’s recent B side on Tectonic is remarkably similar to his early up-beat releases on Big Apple and it seams a number of other producers are starting to re-reference that classic Dubstep sound, only now introducing elements of Techno and Electro.

Enough rambling… some classic Mark One. Edumicationz.

I don’t think there’s anything unfortunate about dubstep producers pushing new sounds.
