A few weeks back the blogs were going nuts with a Hot Chip Rmx of David E. Sugar’s Oi New York, This is London.
The rmx is catchy, a bit of a throw back to uk 2-step.. but never really grabbed me.
However, The label Greco Roman’s myspace page, did. By the looks of it, Greco Roman’s roaster reads like my ipod playlist has the makings of a SERIOUS label.
Checking out the player I noticed along with the original mix and Hot Chip rmx, the EP comes boasting a pretty decent Jesse Rose rmx and an absolutely brilliant Skream rmx.
Why the blogs chose to freak over the Hot Chip mix over the Skream one has me wondering.
Aside from the fact that Skream’s music is almost always killer stuff, this reamins banggin’ while sounding nothing like what he’s put out recently.
Syncopated drums and ultra low subs are traded in for club drums and dance leads, this upbeat Skream reminds me of his sound from a few years back on Big Apple.
Last summer Skream and I spent the better part of a week hunting down old Disco records in shops around the city. Perhaps this outing on Greco Roman is a sign that the 20 year old wonder kid’s alt musical influences are beginning to show?
