Dubstep Mutations

On a Sunday in April

It’s been noticed that Dubstep music has been going through a bit of a mutation during the last six months or so. In England and other parts of Europe a marriage of Germany’s Minimal Techno obsession and South London’s Dubstep music is becoming almost blindingly obvious.

Without a doubt Bristol’s Skull Disco label is an excellent example of this pattern. Talk of a Ricardo Villalobos rmx of Shackleton’s Blood on my Hands has people in both genres very excited.
Last week Skull Disco saw their sixth release hit stores.
If Appleblim’s A side - Vansan isn’t a perfect example of this hybrid sound I don’t know what is.

Stateside we’re seeing a somewhat different type of mutation. North America’s history with Crunk, Gfunk, and Miami Bass are starting to creep into Canadian and American producer’s work. Whatever or however many directions Dubstep decides to take in 2007 one thing is certain. It’s going to be fun as fuck to be in the thick of it.
